Summer is supposed to be all about relaxation and rejuvenation, right?! But, for us women entrepreneurs, it's often more like a juggling act between maintaining business momentum and managing the chaos of summer schedules. Whether you're wrangling kids' activities or just trying to squeeze in a well-deserved break, finding that sweet spot between personal and professional life is crucial.
As an entrepreneur AND a mom of two boys who are deep into competitive baseball, I get it! The struggle is real! Over the years, I've picked up a few tricks to create more harmony in my business with the whirlwind of summer activities, and I'm excited to share them with you. Plus, I'll let you in on a secret weapon: Pocket Coaching. Trust me, it's a game-changer for achieving that elusive summer harmony!
1. Start with the End in Mind
Think about how you want to look back on this summer season. What memories do you want to cherish? What goals do you want to have accomplished?
Visualize Success: Imagine a perfect summer day where you've found the perfect mix of work and fun. Use this vision to guide your daily planning.
Set Clear Goals:Â Define what success looks like for both your business and personal life this summer. This will help you stay focused and motivated.
Reflection Journal: Keep a journal to document your progress and experiences. Reflecting regularly helps you stay on track and appreciate the journey.
2. Embrace Flexibility in Your Schedule
One of the biggest perks of being an entrepreneur? You get to set your own hours. This is especially handy during the summer.
Adjust Your Work Hours:
Quiet Times:Â Identify the quietest parts of your day and designate them for focused work.
This way, you can spend the busier parts of the day enjoying summer activities with your family.
Block Scheduling:Â Assign specific blocks of time for work and personal activities. This structure can help you stay focused and ensure that nothing important falls through the cracks. For example, you may identify that Thursday has a block of time that you can use to prep and schedule all of your social media marketing for the upcoming week.
Micro Scheduling:Â Break your day into smaller time slots. This method can increase productivity by making daunting tasks feel more manageable.
Set Priorities:
Focus on What Matters:Â Use tools like the Eisenhower Matrix to figure out what's urgent and important versus what can be pushed back or delegated. Keep your eye on high-impact tasks that drive your business forward.
The Two-Minute Rule:Â If something takes less than two minutes, handle it right away. This keeps small tasks from piling up and becoming overwhelming.
Weekly Reviews:Â Set aside time each week to review and adjust your priorities. This practice ensures that you stay aligned with your goals and can adapt to any changes.
3. Use Automation to Enhance Efficiency:
Leveraging automation can help you stay productive without being tethered to your office space.
Streamline Repetitive Tasks:Â Automate repetitive tasks to save time and mental energy. This can include anything from invoicing to scheduling social media posts.
Email Automation:Â Set up automated email responses and marketing campaigns to engage with your audience even when you're offline.
Client Management:Â Use CRM systems to manage your client relationships and keep track of follow-ups automatically. And, for time sensitive follow-ups, remember that your smart phone allows to you to connect with clients from wherever you are!
Maintain Consistency:Â Automation helps ensure that your business operations remain consistent, even when you're not actively managing them. This consistency is crucial for maintaining client satisfaction and business growth.
4. Incorporate Self-Care and Family Time:
Beautiful full memories are made when we set intentions and create space for personal moments.
Daily Breaks:
Recharge:Â Schedule short breaks throughout the day to recharge. Activities like a quick walk, meditation, or even just a few pages of a good book can work wonders.
Pomodoro Technique:Â This is one of my favorites! Use this time-management method to improve your focus. Work intensely for 25 minutes, then take a 5-minute break. Repeat!
5. Planning and Goals Setting:
The summer season can provide a great opportunity to revisit your goals and create a plan for the months ahead.
Mid-Year Review:
Check-In:Â Assess your progress towards your annual goals. Tweak what needs tweaking and set new targets for the remainder of the year.
Reflection Sessions:Â Regularly take time to reflect on what's working and what's not working. This helps you stay proactive and make informed adjustments.
6. Pocket Coaching: Your Summer Harmony Secret Weapon
Maintaining business momentum while enjoying the summer season can be challenging. Disrupted routines, increased distractions, and balancing multiple priorities (and roles) can make it hard to stay on track. Summer often means a break from regular schedules, whether due to family vacations, kids being home from school or, social events. The lure of summer activities can be hard to resist. The key is in determining which of these breaks are a total dis-connect (yep, I believe that a complete dis-connect is so important in avoiding entrepreneurial burnout) and which make sense to weave business and pleasure together to ensure your business keeps moving forward. It's easy to lose motivation during the laid-back summer months. Be kind to yourself. Understand that the summer season brings with it the sun and fun but, also a host of challenges for the women entrepreneur. You may not do everything perfectly, and that's okay.
Prioritize Tasks:Â Prioritize tasks and let go of perfectionism.
Celebrate Small Wins:Â Recognize and celebrate the small achievements to stay motivated.
Practice Gratitude:Â Take a moment each day to acknowledge what you're thankful for. Practicing gratitude can shift your mindset, reduce stress, and improve your overall well-being. Keep a gratitude journal or simply reflect on the positives from the day as you drift to sleep each night, helping you maintain your focus and positive outlook during these summer months.
