Embodying Your Worth: How to be a Woman Business Owner that Shines This Year.

Confident professional woman leaning on a boardroom table with her arms crossed.

Are you familiar with the concept of picking your word for the year? I’m not talking about resolutions, but rather a word that you want to embody throughout the year.

I’ve been doing this for the last couple of years and I'm actually amazed at the impact it's had on my life (and my business). The concept is fairly simple. You pick a word that you want to focus on throughout the year and then use it as your filter for everything. For example, I chose “Joy” as my word for 2022 and, I would use this word to guide my decision-making and behaviors throughout the year. If someone asked me to do something, I considered if it brought me a sense of joy before saying yes or no. If I wanted to change a habit, such as expanding my network, I would seek out ways to do this in a way that was joyful for me. Quickly, I began to notice that my life was becoming more...you guessed it...joyful!

I had my own personalized filter for making decisions and creating action, which helped me avoid making rash choices or getting caught in old patterns of behavior. I also found myself focusing more on what I wanted to achieve in life rather than just reacting to each new day as it came along.

So, as you can imagine - when it came time to decide what my new word for 2023 would be I went into it being mindful to choose something that could apply across all areas of my life - including business.

No pressure. 😲

I wrestled with it for a few days but, it seems like the more you try and force something brilliant, the harder it becomes.

The idea for my 2023 word came to me during a long walk, while I was reflecting on my own professional growth as an entrepreneur—and all of the coaching I've done with other women over the years. In most cases, it could be described this way: we're too hard on ourselves when things go wrong and then don't reward ourselves enough after something good happens.

It was then that the word “Worthy” popped into my head - and I knew that this was the answer.

The concept of being worthy isn’t new, but it’s something that we don’t talk about often enough and it deserves more attention.

Needless to say, friends, I'm excited to proclaim "Worthy" as my word for 2023!

I chose this word not only to provide myself with an intentional guidepost for the next 12 months but, also for the women that I work with.

I am worthy—worthy of success, being paid well, working with clients I love, and having a voice in the industry.

In my experience women entrepreneurs often struggle with confidence and knowing their worth. They feel that they're not living up to their own standards or what they assume is expected of them from others. As a result, they will set their prices lower or avoid promoting themselves altogether. I'm sure that you can see how detrimental this can be to their business!

One of the things I love about being an entrepreneur is that it's a high-stakes game - but, if you struggle to believe in the value you provide you will also struggle to break through to the next level.

As a business coach, I'm committed to supporting the women I work with by helping them know and embody their worth. This means creating space for them to be real—vulnerable even—and explore new possibilities as well as encouraging them to step out of their comfort zones in order to claim their awesomeness!

So, let's start this off on the right foot -- Here are 5 practices that you can do to start boosting your self-worth:

  • Write down all of the things that you do well. Seriously, even if it's just one thing! (I'll wait.)

  • Make a list of all the reasons why you're amazing. Not just your achievements, but also the qualities that make you who you are: your values and morals, your personality traits, etc.

  • Write down three things that you're grateful for each day. This will help reinforce what's working well in your life right now as well as provide some perspective when things aren't going so smoothly.

  • Make a list of all the things that you want in life. This can be big or small, but it's important to write down exactly what you're looking for because it will help you focus on what's important to you instead of being derailed by setbacks.

  • Practice showing up as the confident, dynamic woman that you are! How do you walk into a room? How do you introduce yourself and your business? How can you demonstrate your pride in your work and business that feels authentic to you?

You are worthy of all the happiness and success you desire! If you need a reminder of this truth, reach out to me personally: I will be delighted to send you a regular message that reminds you of your greatness.

Keep Being Awesome!
